How Buying A House Is Different In The 21st Century

Home buying is changing. Sure mortgages and foreclosures will still be around, but what is changing is what people look for in a home. Some twenty years ago home buyers wanted homes with a good amount of bedrooms, bathrooms, a nice kitchen, a basement and/or an attic, a big yard for the kids to play in and a house near their workplace. While those things are still important, prospective homeowners are now changing their priorities on what they need in a house. Here are a few things that new home buyers are looking for in the 21st century.

Extra Rooms

With the price of homes still too high, incomes too low and bad credit everywhere, it’s becoming harder and harder to own a home. That’s why many Americans are choosing to live with their parents and even grandparents. Because of this, home buyers are looking for extra bedrooms. This can come in the form of basements and attics that are converted to living spaces.

Location

Home buyers are also not placing as big of an importance on the distance from the home to their workplace. The reason for that is that many people work from home now. This means that home buyers aren’t forced into buying a home within a 10 mile radius from their workplace.

Yard Size

The size of the yard is also something that is not as important as it once was. Technology has also changed what kids do for fun. Kids now play video games, watch movies or play on their tablet.

Connectivity

Now and in the future, home buyers will be looking for homes where high speed broadband is readily available. They will check cell phone reception to see how their phones work in the area.

Home Office

The floor plan for new homes is also changing. A home office is no longer considered a luxury, but a necessity for new homes. Some home buyers are looking for two home offices. When they see bedrooms they’ll also envision where they can have their beds, their tv and their computer.

Green Homes

Green-friendly homes are also hot right now and that trend will continue. These homes are the wave of the future, as they use less energy and are more environmentally friendly.
